Chocolate cake. In the microwave. In a freakin’ mug.

I know this has been mentioned on thousands of other blogs but it never ceases to amaze me that you can make chocolate cake in the microwave in a matter of minutes. In a mug, no less.

If you’re after a fine dining experience, I’d advise you to move on. Nothing to see here. But if you need a quick bit of cake to ram into your face hole, then carry on reading.

The original recipe can be found here but I’ve made a couple of adjustments which are reflected in the ingredients below.

You will need:

  • 1 mug
  • 4 tbsp self raising flour
  • 4 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 2 tbsp cocoa
  • 1 egg
  • 3 tbsp milk
  • 3 tbsp oil
  • A few drops of vanilla essence
  • Chocolate chips, nuts or peanut butter/Nutella (optional)

How to make it:

  1. Mix the dry ingredients well with a fork before adding them to the mug.
  2. Mix the egg, milk, oil and vanilla well before adding to the mug.
  3. Mix the wet and dry ingredients throughly.
  4. Add chocolate chips, nuts or peanut butter/Nutella into the centre of the mix if required.
  5. Put mug into microwave and cook for 2 minutes 30 seconds (850 watts). Cake will rise over top of mug.
  6. Leave in the microwave to finish cooking for 2 minutes.
  7. Allow to cool for a further minute.

Variations include using brown sugar instead of granulated sugar, or drinking chocolate instead of cocoa. If you’re using plain flour, add a teaspoon of baking powder.

As i mentioned earlier, it’s not something that would be served up at The Ritz. But let’s face it. It all goes to make a turd.
