I know this has been mentioned on thousands of other blogs but it never ceases to amaze me that you can make chocolate cake in the microwave in a matter of minutes. In a mug, no less.
If you’re after a fine dining experience, I’d advise you to move on. Nothing to see here. But if you need a quick bit of cake to ram into your face hole, then carry on reading.
The original recipe can be found here but I’ve made a couple of adjustments which are reflected in the ingredients below.
You will need:
- 1 mug
- 4 tbsp self raising flour
- 4 tbsp granulated sugar
- 2 tbsp cocoa
- 1 egg
- 3 tbsp milk
- 3 tbsp oil
- A few drops of vanilla essence
- Chocolate chips, nuts or peanut butter/Nutella (optional)
How to make it:
- Mix the dry ingredients well with a fork before adding them to the mug.
- Mix the egg, milk, oil and vanilla well before adding to the mug.
- Mix the wet and dry ingredients throughly.
- Add chocolate chips, nuts or peanut butter/Nutella into the centre of the mix if required.
- Put mug into microwave and cook for 2 minutes 30 seconds (850 watts). Cake will rise over top of mug.
- Leave in the microwave to finish cooking for 2 minutes.
- Allow to cool for a further minute.
Variations include using brown sugar instead of granulated sugar, or drinking chocolate instead of cocoa. If you’re using plain flour, add a teaspoon of baking powder.
As i mentioned earlier, it’s not something that would be served up at The Ritz. But let’s face it. It all goes to make a turd.
